Volkswagen EPC: find the right VW part number by VIN

The Volkswagen EPC (electronic parts catalogue) lists every original part for a VW with exploded diagrams and part numbers. On SoloCatalog you can use it free in the browser: enter the VIN, open the drawing and copy the genuine VW part number.

Find a VW part number in four steps

1. Enter the 17-character VIN from the windscreen, the door pillar or the registration document. 2. Choose the main group, for example 6 for wheels and brakes. 3. Open the drawing and find the part's position number. 4. Copy the part number and give it to your supplier. Parts that the VIN rules out are already hidden.

How VW part numbers are built

A Volkswagen Group part number such as 5Q0 698 151 C (front brake pads for a Golf 7) has a pattern. The first three characters show the model or platform the part was first designed for. The next digit is the main group (1 engine, 2 fuel and exhaust, 3 gearbox, 4 front axle and steering, 5 rear axle, 6 wheels and brakes, 7 levers and pedals, 8 body, 9 electrics, 0 accessories). The next two digits are the sub-group, then the part's own number, and the letters at the end mark versions of the same part.

PR codes: why two identical-looking cars need different parts

Every VW leaves the factory with a list of three-character PR codes for its equipment, such as brake size, suspension or lighting. They are printed on the vehicle data sticker, usually in the spare-wheel well and the service book. The EPC uses these codes to decide which parts fit. When you search by VIN, SoloCatalog reads them for you.

Popular Volkswagen models

The catalogue covers the Volkswagen range in the ETKA 2026-01 release, from older Golf, Passat, Polo and Jetta generations to current models, across European, US, Latin American, South African and Chinese markets.

Audi, Škoda and SEAT too

Audi, Škoda and SEAT share many parts with Volkswagen and use the same catalogue system. Their catalogues are on SoloCatalog as well. See the ETKA online guide for all four brands.

Is the VW EPC free?

Yes. Looking up Volkswagen parts by VIN and copying part numbers on SoloCatalog.com is free.

Where is the VIN on a Volkswagen?

At the bottom of the windscreen on the passenger or driver side, on the door pillar sticker, and on the registration document. The data sticker with PR codes is usually in the spare-wheel well and the service book.

Can I search by VW part number?

Yes. After opening the car by VIN you can search its catalogue by part number or English part name.

How up to date is the catalogue?

It uses the VW Group release from January 2026. Vehicles built after that may not open yet.

Are these genuine Volkswagen part numbers?

Yes, they come from the manufacturer's catalogue data. Confirm the final number with your supplier, because numbers can be superseded.
